Sally Bacarella of Bacarella Interiors hosted a budding New Jersey Interior Designer / Architect as part of the Communications High School Design Academy Internship Program February through April 2015.

Anna McComb worked with Sally in her Farmingdale, New Jersey, Monmouth County studio.

McComb graduated Communications High School Friday, June 19, 2015. She begins college this fall and will study architecture. She continues to work with Sally this summer.

MONMOUTH COUNTY, NEW JERSEY INTERIOR DESIGN STUDIO INTERNSHIP

According to Sally, Anna’s fresh perspective and point-of-view as well as her energy and great personality were inspiring and brought new life to the studio. Anna was very productive and vital to day-to-day operations.

During the internship, McComb worked among one of the most extensive collections in New Jersey of interior design samples and catalogs at the Bacarella Interiors studio. Sally Bacarella has over twenty years of experience with interior design in New Jersey, New York, and several vacation destinations. The internship was an opportunity for Anna to gain exposure to Sally’s expertise, studio library resources, and business management acumen.

NURTURING AN INTEREST IN INTERIOR DESIGN AND ARCHITECTURE IN NEW JERSEY

Anna states she was very happy with her decision and described the internship as, “very influential and informative.” She says she developed experience with client relationships, tastes, and satisfaction as well as sketching and accounting.

Anna also gained an understanding of business ownership and management. The impact and role of career choice and satisfaction on lifestyle and happiness was an unexpected lesson. The joyful and positive life Sally experiences  as a result of loving her career inspired her, Anna states.

Will the internship help Anna at college? Yes, she says. Specifically she thinks that what she learned from Sally will help her be more responsible and more efficient while at college.

SPARKING AN INTEREST IN INTERIOR DESIGN AND ARCHITECTURE

Communications High School is one of several prestigious Monmouth County, New Jersey application-based vocational schools.  Its Design Academy has a small cadre of students — only 8 in 2015 — who study a broad array of design fields such as graphic design and illustration. Students participate in an internship their senior year. Anna selected Bacarella Interiors as her internship site.

Anna began to consider an interior design concentration in 2014 at the Design Academy. As she grew more aware of what she enjoyed most at the academy, she became more drawn to studying interior design. TLC decorating shows also contributed to her interest.

A GREAT, PROMISING FUTURE WITH INTERIOR DESIGN AND ARCHITECTURE

According to Sally, Anna was a tremendous asset to Bacarella Interiors and is sure to have a successful career in the future. Her talent, likable personality, and efficiency will help her as she continues to nurture her passion for architecture and design.  And in the future, the door to Bacarella Interiors is always open to Anna as she builds her career.
